The Russian "Concern Kalashnikov" has announced its work on a new strike drone complex called "KUB-SM," which will be showcased at the IDEX-2025 exhibition taking place in the UAE in the second half of February.
This development is intended for swarm operations and consists of two types of UAVs and a launch and control vehicle.
The drones are standardized and designed for container launch, which allows for foldable wings. The first type is an attack drone intended to target unarmored and lightly armored vehicles, as well as personnel. This likely indicates a relatively small-sized warhead of combined action.
The second drone is a UAV that combines reconnaissance and relay functions. Based on the released image, it features a parachute landing system.
0The exact specifications of the UAVs, such as range, dimensions, payload, etc., have not been disclosed, nor has it been revealed who specifically developed these drones at "Concern Kalashnikov." However, it seems that they have been significantly inspired by the Altius from the American company Anduril, which is being supplied to Ukraine. It also features container launch capabilities and two versions: strike and reconnaissance.
1Regarding the launch system, a command post, communication systems, and 16 transport-launch containers are expected to be mounted on an armored Ural truck chassis. Of these, 14 will be reserved for strike drones, and 2 for relays.
2The current stage of this project is unknown, but more details may emerge during the IDEX-2025 exhibition, where "KUB-SM" could be presented as an image, model, or full prototype.
It is also worth noting that "Concern Kalashnikov" has announced the demonstration of a new strike drone "KUB-2," which the Russian army is already using on the front lines. Therefore, it is not excluded that similar tests are being conducted for the "KUB-SM" on the battlefield.
