Are you really falling apart over a phone call? Will someone share the transcript so I can find out what was discussed?
We don’t know any details or the content of the calls, nor whether there were any agreements made at all.
We are unaware of what is in the draft agreement brought by the U.S., what amendments Ukraine will propose by the weekend, and what its final version will look like.
We do not know what will be discussed in Munich and what results each side will come away with.
What we do know is:
a) there were 2 phone calls lasting 60-90 minutes;
b) all parties described them in positive terms;
c) Trump has currently appointed 4 individuals responsible for negotiations, 3 of whom are considered part of "our" wing in his administration.
One negative aspect is clear – Putin is being drawn out of isolation and legitimized through personal communication with the President of the United States. This fact alone is a diplomatic victory for him. However:
1) Did we expect this?
2) This U.S. President has met with Kim Jong-un and called him a friend.
No one knows how this will all end, including all the participants in the process, but Donny only needs to send 2 tweets for us to be in trouble.
"We are in trouble" depends on:
1) the number of mistakes made by the government and society within the state;
2) the actions of the U.S.;
3) the actions of Europe;
4) the resilience of Russia;
5) a dozen other factors.
So far, I haven’t seen any action that has brought us closer to disaster. Sanctions remain in place. Military aid continues. The permit for long-range weapons has not been revoked.
There are also shifts in other parameters. European aid packages are increasing. The government in Germany will soon change to one that is allied with us, which will solidify the consolidated position of major European capitals. Funding for the war in 2025 is secured through $50 billion in frozen assets and EU assistance. Ukraine is ramping up its long-range armaments, which are being funded by Europeans, and is using them against Russia every day. The formation of new brigades has stopped. There is a reform of military management and the creation of corps. The situation in the Donetsk region is stabilizing, and as reported by Russian sources, counterattacks are even being carried out.
The struggle continues, the stakes are very high, but the call, about which you know nothing, is not the best reason to fall apart.
I hope those responsible for negotiations on our side will refrain from reading comments on any social media until Monday. Otherwise, you’ll just end up spiraling into capitulation.
