There’s a postponement, but no medical certificate: when does a booked appointment require a medical examination?

Citizens subject to military service, who have deferred mobilization, should not be sent for examination by the Military Medical Commission (VMC). However, there are several nuances regarding the validity periods of the certificate and the medical examination for those reserved in case of signing a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

The lawyer explained that paragraph 63 of the Cabinet of Ministers' Resolution No. 560 dated May 16, 2024, stipulates: military personnel who apply to the Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) for a deferment shall not be sent for a medical examination to determine their fitness for military service until a decision is made by the relevant commission.

— In the event the commission decides to deny the deferment, the military personnel subject to conscription during mobilization shall be sent for medical examination to determine their fitness for military service, — says the lawyer.

She also clarified that military personnel whose deferment from conscription during mobilization for a special period is still valid are also not sent for medical examination, except in cases where they are being recruited for military service under a contract.

— If a military personnel applies for a deferment, or if the deferment period is still valid, such military personnel are not sent for medical examination, — summarized Natalia Opolskaya.

However, she emphasized that one should remember the validity period of the VMC certificate (one year) during martial law.
