42-year-old Olga from Dnipro, who suffered from severe domestic violence and endured five strokes, found refuge at the "Mom's Happiness" social support center for children and families. Her story was shared on the Center's Facebook page, as reported by "Vidomo".
The woman and her children, who also suffered from abuse, received the necessary assistance and are gradually recovering from their experiences.
"I ended up in the hospital with another stroke – it was a result of constant arguments and beatings. Five years ago, the man started using alcohol and drugs, and our life turned into hell. At first, he was emotionally abusive, then he resorted to physical violence. His brother, who lived with us, even beat the children – I have a son and a daughter," recalls the woman.
Olga states that she was only able to escape after the intervention of social services and caring individuals.
"The doctors told me directly: 'Either you go to the center, or next time it will be a fatal incident.'
I talked to my children, and they agreed. We have been here for two months now. The children are going to school. I am not working yet because the left side is paralyzed, but I am currently undergoing rehabilitation. Before hospitalization, I was a seller’s assistant at the market. The only thing I can say to women suffering from domestic violence is – run and seek help! I endured for a long time because I didn't know where to turn," shares Olga.
At the "Mom's Happiness" Center, women are provided with safe temporary housing for up to 9 months, as well as assistance in obtaining social benefits and documents. Psychologists, lawyers, and social workers are available to help victims of violence start a new life. All services are free of charge.
Specialists remind: if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, do not remain silent. You can reach out for help at the Center through social services or the police. Contact numbers: (056)-785-73-60, (067)-200-40-62.
