A bold yet, unfortunately, quite typical crime occurred in the city of Apostolovo - near one of the local stores, a 40-year-old man, previously convicted for similar offenses, stole a mobile phone. The victim was a local resident. This was reported by "Vydomo" citing the police of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The crime scheme was relatively simple – the criminal skillfully employed "social engineering" tactics, asking the woman to call his number due to his own phone being out of charge. Trusting him, the woman handed over her mobile phone. The man distracted her attention and simply fled with the stolen device.
The investigation quickly identified the perpetrator.
Operational search measures were conducted, which led to the arrest of the 40-year-old man at his residence. He was charged with theft as defined by the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court has chosen to impose pre-trial detention. The investigation continues to progress.
Law enforcement officials urge citizens to remain vigilant and not to trust strangers, especially when asked to use your phone. It is essential to remember that any request, even one that seems trivial, from an unfamiliar person could conceal criminal intentions.
