The remarkable Ukrainian singer and composer Nikolai Mozgovoy left a profound mark on Ukraine's musical culture. His works, including songs like "My Native Land," remain popular even today. The folk artist passed away in 2010.
His compositions were frequently performed by top Ukrainian singers, such as Sofia Rotaru, Vasily Zinkevich, and Raisa Kirichenko, and continue to be played on the radio and at concerts. "Telegraf" decided to recall what is known about Nikolai Mozgovoy's artistic legacy and discover the appearance of the legendary singer's grave.
Nikolai Mozgovoy began his career as a pop singer in the Ivano-Frankivsk VIA "Berkut" and was invited to the Kyiv Music Hall in 1977. He gained fame as a composer in 1979 when Sofia Rotaru performed his song "Native Land."
Later, the composer started performing his own songs, such as "My First Love," "Horyanka," "For the First Time," "The Day Passes," and more. Eventually, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist. At one point, he became one of the highest-paid artists in Ukraine, although he never joined the Union of Composers.
In the 1990s, Nikolai Mozgovoy was actively involved in production. He discovered many young talents, supporting them in their initial steps on stage. In 1993, he was honored with the title of People's Artist of Ukraine.
0On July 30, 2010, Nikolai Mozgovoy passed away. He died in his own home in the village of Kiylov in the Borispol district. The farewell ceremony for the artist took place at the Assumption Cathedral of the Pechersk Lavra.
Nikolai Mozgovoy was buried at Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv, in section 49-A. This is a place where many famous figures of Ukrainian culture and art rest. The folk artist lies next to Leonid Bykov, Sergey Ivanov, Nikolai Olyalin, and writer Pavel Glazov.
1Elena, the daughter of Nikolai Mozgovoy, erected a monument at her father's grave made of red and black granite. The artist is depicted as Gulliver. Around the grave, his daughter planted juniper bushes.
