In Dnipropetrovsk region, law enforcement officials dismantled a corruption scheme related to the illegal sale of positions in the rear units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Two women were arrested: a 63-year-old neurologist from the city hospital and a 54-year-old secretary of the military medical commission (VLC). The scheme devised and implemented by these women was a meticulously planned system for extorting money from conscripts wishing to avoid deployment to the front lines. This was reported by "Vidomo," citing the Dnipropetrovsk police.
The central figures of this corruption network were the neurologist, who had access to medical documentation and the ability to "adjust" diagnoses, and the VLC secretary, responsible for organizing and managing documentation.
The mechanism of the scheme was straightforward - conscripts seeking to be assigned to rear units approached the VLC secretary. She, in turn, contacted the neurologist, who would then "assign" fictitious illnesses to clients, allowing them to evade service in combat units. For their services, the women received a reward of 1,000 US dollars for each client.
During the preparation for the arrests, irrefutable evidence was gathered confirming both women's involvement in the crime.
The neurologist was apprehended directly in her office after receiving another bribe of 800 US dollars. At the same time, the VLC secretary was also taken into custody. She was arrested at her workplace while accepting 200 US dollars (the remaining part of the bribe for the provided "service").
The arrested women were taken to the police station for questioning, where they confessed to committing the crime and provided detailed accounts of how their corruption scheme operated.
Currently, both detainees are in custody. They have been charged under the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for a penalty of up to 5 years of imprisonment. However, considering the scale and nature of the crime committed, the prosecutor may seek a harsher punishment. The investigation is ongoing.
