On the night of February 25, at approximately 22:03, the police received a report about a burning car parked near one of the houses in the Metallurgical district of Kryvyi Rih. Police officers and a team of rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine promptly arrived at the scene. This was reported by "Vідомо," citing the police of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle ablaze. Despite the swift actions of the rescuers, the fire quickly spread throughout the vehicle, ultimately destroying it completely.
Investigators determined that the vehicle had been intentionally set on fire, with the perpetrator having first broken the car's window. The police began a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the criminal.
Several hours after the report of the burning car, the suspect was detained. He was identified as a 27-year-old man living nearby. The arrest was conducted in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, which regulates the procedure for detention. The suspect was taken to the police station for investigative actions.
During the interrogation, the suspect attempted to deny his involvement in the arson; however, the evidence collected by the police left him with no chance. He was informed of his suspicion of committing a criminal offense under part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional destruction or damage to property. This article carries a severe penalty, including imprisonment for up to ten years.
