The trial against a serviceman in Dnipro, who abused his mother and evicted her from her home, continues. This was reported by "Vidiomo" citing "Dnipro Operational".
According to case materials, in November 2024, the Amur-Nizhndniprovsk District Court of Dnipro decided to evict the man and his wife from his mother's house, from which he had expelled her. Additionally, the man is required to pay his mother 100,000 hryvnias in compensation for the abuse.
The story began when the elderly woman, who turned 79 last year, sold her apartment and purchased a house in Dnipro. She gave part of the money to her son to help him buy his own place, but he squandered it on personal expenses. Subsequently, he unlawfully moved into his mother's house without her permission or registration.
Living with her son turned into a nightmare for the woman. According to her, the man repeatedly committed domestic violence, threatened her, insulted her, and used foul language. She was often forced to leave her home and seek refuge with a friend.
When the son brought his girlfriend into the house in 2022, the situation escalated further. Due to constant stress, the woman suffered a heart attack. She ended up in the hospital, and upon returning home, she found that she had been placed in the smallest room, as if she were a guest in her own house.
Despite this, the woman continued to pay all the utility bills for the house, even though her pension barely exceeds 4,000 hryvnias. She could not afford to rent another place.
In September 2023, the son, in a state of alcohol intoxication, attacked and beat his mother. This was confirmed by the conclusion of a forensic expert, and a criminal case was opened regarding the assault. After this incident, the woman was forced to leave her home permanently and move in with neighbors.
The aggressor did not stop there—he changed the locks on the doors, effectively preventing his mother from returning home. This was despite the fact that, according to the real estate registry reviewed by the court, he owned his own property.
During the court session, witnesses were interrogated who confirmed the abuse against the elderly woman. A neighbor testified that she had repeatedly heard screams and insults directed at the mother from her son. She also witnessed the man changing the locks on the doors, depriving his mother of access to her own home.
Another friend of the woman confirmed that the mother had financially supported her son throughout his life, purchasing him housing that he sold, and now she was forced to wander without a roof over her head.
"The son's attitude towards his mother is terrible, as he treats her with contempt, constantly insults and humiliates her. For almost a year (the elderly woman – ed.) has been without a place to live since her son unlawfully moved into the house she bought, expelled her, and changed the locks,” the witness testified in court.
In November 2024, Judge Larysa Yakimenko of the Amur-Nizhndniprovsk District Court ruled in favor of the mother. The court ordered the eviction of the son and his girlfriend without providing alternative housing and ordered the husband to pay 100,000 hryvnias for moral damages. Additionally, the court ordered the couple to compensate 7,000 hryvnias for attorney fees and pay court costs.
The son, a serviceman, disagreed with the court's decision and filed an appeal. He requested to be exempted from paying court fees as a defender.
The final decision in this case has yet to be made. The next hearing in the appellate court is scheduled for March 2025.
