The investigation into a high-profile corruption case in the Dnipropetrovsk region has been completed, with Sergey Burkhan, the chairman of the Verkhnodniprovsk District Court, being implicated. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) have gathered irrefutable evidence of his guilt. This was reported by "Vydomo".

The scheme devised by Judge Burkhan was quite sophisticated. He did not interact directly with the applicant but instead used a middleman. According to the investigation, a citizen whose property was seized in the course of criminal proceedings approached the court to request the lifting of the arrest.

Judge Burkhan, instead of objectively reviewing the case in accordance with the law and the evidence presented, demanded a bribe of $2,500 through the intermediary. Although this amount may seem relatively small in the context of some major corruption schemes, it is significant considering the judge's position and his duty to ensure impartial justice.

After receiving the illicit benefit, Judge Burkhan, as promised, issued a ruling to lift the arrest on the property. It is important to note that the intermediary involved in the bribe transfer has also been held accountable. He has already entered into a plea agreement, and the case materials have been sent to court.

Judge Burkhan is charged under part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for substantial imprisonment and confiscation of property. The maximum penalty under this article is 10 years of imprisonment with property confiscation.

The case is expected to be heard in court soon.
