Stop saying "goodbye." Learn the proper way to say farewell in Ukrainian.

In the Ukrainian language, there is an abundance of synonyms that can replace the mundane "goodbye". There are at least nine phrases and words that are appropriate to use when bidding farewell to someone.

"Telegraph" explains what is better to say in such cases. It is important to note that the appropriate phrase will depend on the context in which you are parting.

Linguists categorize farewells in Ukrainian into two types — when you will see or contact the person again soon, and when the separation will be long.

How to say goodbye when you will see the person soon:

• "До побачення! / Побачимося!";
• "До зустрічі! / Зустрінемося!";
• "До зв’язку! / Зв’яжемося!";
• "До завтра/вечора/вівторка/вихідних!";
• "Спишемося! / Зідзвонимося!".

How to say goodbye for a long time:

• "Хай/нехай щастить!";
• "Усього найкращого!";
• "Бувайте здорові!";
• "Щасливо!".
