Today, however, a classic cheeseburger costs over 50 hryvnias, and the entire menu has become significantly more expensive.

How the first McDonald's in Kyiv looked

The first McDonald's fast-food restaurant in Kyiv opened on May 24, 1997. The establishment was located near the "Lukyanivska" metro station in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital.

This fast-food restaurant became not only the first in Kyiv but also the first in all of Ukraine.

On the opening day, crowds of people gathered outside McDonald's, eager to try "exotic" hamburgers, fries, and cola. People started lining up several hours before the official opening and waited in line for hours.

Archive photos reveal what the first McDonald's in Kyiv looked like: the establishment was housed in the building of the "Lukyanivska" metro lobby, and a large figure of Ronald McDonald, the company's mascot, sat atop the roof.

Interestingly, just the next day, another McDonald's restaurant opened at Sevastopolska Square, and by summer and autumn, the well-known fast-food chain appeared on Khreshchatyk, Poshtova Square, and near the "Levoberezhna" metro station.

After that, the American corporation operating in the food service sector began gradually opening its restaurants throughout Ukraine, and McDonald's became an integral part of our everyday lives.
