Only a few days remain until Donald Trump's inauguration. On January 20, he will become the 47th president of the United States and the second to lead the country twice, albeit not in consecutive terms.

In anticipation of this historic event, "Telegraph" decided to recall how the inauguration of his predecessor, Joe Biden, took place in 2021. Biden's rise to power was preceded by turmoil — on the evening of January 6, supporters of Trump, who was then the sitting president but had lost the election, began storming the Capitol building. The protesters disrupted a Senate session that was meant to certify the results of the presidential election, in which Biden had emerged victorious.

The protesters breached the premises, leading to clashes with the police. Five people lost their lives during these events — two women and three men, one of whom was a law enforcement officer. Trump dispatched the National Guard to the Capitol. Alongside Biden, he called for an end to the protests; however, several social media platforms banned Trump after they interpreted his remarks as incitements that encouraged the protesters to storm the building. Ultimately, the National Guard and police cleared the Capitol of protesters. The Senate resumed its work, and on January 7, the U.S. Congress certified Biden as the winner of the presidential election.

Biden's inauguration ceremony took place on January 20, 2021. On the same day, Trump left the White House. The day before the inauguration, Trump declared a state of emergency in Washington, and the FBI warned of the threat of armed protests. The ceremony was conducted under heightened security measures, and its procedures were modified due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden's inauguration occurred on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington. The event began with speeches from several officials, followed by a prayer, and Lady Gaga performed the U.S. national anthem.

The first to take the oath was Vice President Kamala Harris, followed by the president. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath to Biden.

"I, Joseph Biden, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. So help me God," Biden declared, officially becoming the 46th president of the United States.

He took the oath with his hand on a Bible that has been in his family since 1893. Following this, the new president delivered a 21-minute speech, calling for unity among Americans.

"We, the Americans, are relentless, optimistic, and we are building the nation we should be. I am grateful to the representatives of both parties whose members are present here, and to the presidents who came before me. I know our Constitution is unbreakable and I believe in the power of our nation," Biden stated.

As reported by "Telegraph," just a few days prior to the inauguration, the official portrait of the newly elected president, Donald Trump, was unveiled. It is so strikingly different from his inauguration portrait from 2017 that it sparked thoughts and discussions online.
