Ukrainian polar explorers at the "Akademik Vernadsky" station spotted an unusual visitor — an Antarctic penguin, also known as the "policeman." It began to approach the nest of sub-Antarctic penguins and peck at it.

The photo was published on the Facebook page of the National Antarctic Scientific Center. This penguin is referred to as the "policeman" because of the thin black stripe on its chin, which resembles a strap on a helmet.

According to scientists, the Antarctic penguin initially appeared at the pier and noticed disturbances in one of the sub-Antarctic penguin nests. It then started visiting one of the nests and pecking at it, leading to a conflict with the pair of penguins that built that nest.

The conflict between the penguins lasted several days, after which the birds reconciled and the "policeman" penguin moved to another part of Galindez Island.

Biologist Svyatoslav Davidenko from the 29th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition notes that among the three species of penguins inhabiting the area around the station, Antarctic penguins are the most aggressive.
