The toll has long reached the hundreds: the number of employees from "Ukrzaliznytsia" who lost their lives during the war.

Russia regularly targets Ukraine's railway infrastructure. Unfortunately, these strikes often result in the deaths of workers in this sector. Moreover, many railway workers are currently defending their homeland with weapons in hand. As a result, the number of fatalities among "Ukrzaliznytsia" employees has already reached hundreds since the onset of the war.

This information was shared with "Telegraph" by representatives of "Ukrzaliznytsia". In the official response to the publication's inquiry, the company stated that as of February 24, 2022, a total of 790 railway workers have lost their lives.

Of these:

• 351 — in 2022;
• 252 — in 2023;
• 187 — in 2024.

However, "Ukrzaliznytsia" did not specify how many of these employees died on the front lines, how many at their workplaces, and how many simply while off duty in the rear.

They noted that more detailed information on this matter would be available only after the state of martial law is lifted.

"Since disclosing this data could pose a threat to the safety of the company's operations and its employees," the response from "Ukrzaliznytsia" states.
