The President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed an order to impose tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. These tariffs will take effect starting February 4 and have already sparked a negative reaction from Chinese leadership.
This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. The Chinese authorities expressed their deep "disappointment" with the actions of the United States. Official Beijing intends to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Additionally, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that countermeasures would be taken to protect the rights and interests of the PRC. However, specific actions were not detailed.
It is worth noting that the White House indicated that the tariffs would remain in effect until the crisis is "alleviated." No details were provided regarding what actions China, Canada, and Mexico would need to take to have the tariffs lifted; all that was stated in the White House was that there would be no exceptions to the tariffs.
Tariffs of 25% have been imposed on all imports from Canada and Mexico, while a 10% tariff (in addition to existing ones) has been set on imports from China.
As reported earlier by "Telegraph," the special representative of President Donald Trump for Ukraine and Russia, Kurt Kellogg, did not rule out the possibility of ending the war not "in years," but "in months."
