The Security Service of Ukraine has uncovered a lawyer in Dnipro who, for a fee, assisted conscripts in avoiding mobilization. This was reported by "Vydomo" citing the press services of the SBU and DBR.
Boasting connections with officials from the Military Recruitment Center and law enforcement, the lawyer offered a local resident a "service package" for 12,000 US dollars to help him evade mobilization and leave the country.
He promised to facilitate a fake medical treatment at one of the healthcare facilities, after which he would arrange the necessary documents with the representatives of the Military Recruitment Center.
Included in the payment was assistance in smuggling the conscript out of the country. He utilized his connections in the military enlistment offices and guaranteed "escort" from the Military Recruitment Center employees. The lawyer assured that when crossing the border, the individual would be allowed through without being asked "unnecessary" questions.
Upon receiving the 12,000 US dollars, the lawyer was caught red-handed. In his vehicle, in addition to the bribe, military registration documents for three other conscripts were found and seized, complete with resolutions and stamps from one of the local Military Recruitment Centers.
The lawyer has been notified of suspicion for receiving illegal benefits for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, associated with extortion (part 3 of article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.
The sanctions of the articles provide for a penalty of up to 9 years of imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation continues to identify other individuals involved in the criminal scheme.
