The SBU and National Police detained agents of the Russian Federation in Zhytomyr who were planning to blow up a police unit that was supposed to respond to a call to 102. This was reported by "Vydomo" citing the press service of the SBU.
According to the investigation, two 19-year-old residents of Dnipropetrovsk region were looking for "easy money" through Telegram.
At the direction of their client, the suspects were to detonate explosives in a rented apartment in Zhytomyr when the police unit they had called via the 102 number arrived.
On January 19, 2025, they traveled to the regional center, picked up a suitcase and a bag with explosives from a designated location, and set it up in an apartment in the city center.
They disguised two explosive devices in a soft children's toy and a box from a portable charger. They placed them by the entrance door and in a room before leaving the apartment. Using remote access to this device, the enemy planned to activate both explosives when the police entered through the open door. To record the terrorist act, they set up a mobile phone in surveillance mode and informed their "client" about the completed work.
Employees of the SBU acted preemptively: they documented all the preparations of the criminals for the terrorist act and arrested both individuals at their hotel "in the act" immediately after a call to the National Police's "hotline."
