Judge Lali Novik of the Dnipropetrovsk District Court in the Dnipropetrovsk region was detained while accepting a bribe of $2,500 and has since been mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported on Facebook by the analytical advocacy center DEJURE, as noted by "Vydomo".
"The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court has suspended the case against Judge Novik, who is accused of receiving a bribe of $2,500. The reason – the judge was mobilized an hour before the verdict was announced, while her lawyer was attempting to halt the proceedings during the hearing," – the statement reads.
Previously, the High Anti-Corruption Court found Lali Novik guilty of making a decision in a civil case for money, sentencing her to 5 years in custody. However, the appeal was halted due to the judge's urgent mobilization.
Analysts noted that Novik is not the first to get mobilized in an apparent attempt to evade punishment. A significant number of judges at various stages of prosecution are trying to escape responsibility through military service: whether in the consideration of criminal cases in court or disciplinary matters in the High Council of Justice.
