The Security Service has thwarted a terrorist attack in Dnipro. As a result of the special operation, an enemy intelligence group was apprehended, which had attempted to detonate an explosive device targeting a former law enforcement officer from the regional center on behalf of Russia. This was reported by "Vідомо" citing the Eastern Region Special Prosecutor's Office and SSU.
To carry out the crime, the Russians recruited three agents: a 52-year-old nurse from Vinnitsa region, along with a 26-year-old unemployed man from Kharkiv and his 20-year-old girlfriend. They were lured through a Telegram channel promoting "quick earnings".
The Ukrainian veteran was to be eliminated using a homemade explosive device (IED), which the resident of Vinnitsa was supposed to activate as the man approached his garage.
The SSU counterintelligence apprehended the female suspect "in the act" as she was preparing to detonate the explosives using a remote control. A couple of Russian agents from Kharkiv were detained immediately afterward.
Following the instructions from their Russian handlers, they arrived in Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk region, where they collected the IED from a pre-prepared hideout.
They then traveled to Dnipro and left the explosives in a rented apartment. After this, both agents returned to Kharkiv to "lie low" and await further instructions from their curator in Russia.
Before leaving, the couple hid the apartment keys in a flowerbed near the building for the agent from Vinnitsa region. Using this location, the woman retrieved the IED and placed it near the agreed garage in the yard where the veteran guard resides.
