A Ukrainian who fought alongside Russian forces and was captured was tried in Dnipro.

A Ukrainian was tried in Dnipro for voluntarily fighting on the enemy's side at the front. He was captured by Ukrainian forces in October 2024 during the assault on one of the settlements in the Donetsk region. This is stated in the court's verdict published in the Unified State Register of Judicial Decisions, as reported by "Vидомо".

It is noted that after the onset of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian citizen voluntarily joined the illegal armed formations of the "DPR" and later the Russian army. There, he served in various units, received a salary in rubles, and participated in combat operations against the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In early August 2024, as part of the occupying forces, the man stormed the positions of the Defense Forces near the village of New York in the Donetsk region. In October, he was surrounded by Ukrainian troops and subsequently captured.

During the trial, the prisoner admitted his guilt and expressed remorse, acknowledging that Russian propaganda does not reflect reality. He clarified that he indeed voluntarily signed a contract to serve in the Russian Armed Forces but later left for another unit, where he stayed for two years.

The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of all his property.
