The military counterintelligence of the Security Service has dismantled a large-scale espionage network linked to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Armed Forces of Russia (known as GRU). The perpetrators were spying on Defense Forces across five regions of Ukraine, with their leader based in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, as reported by "Vydomo" citing the Security Service of Ukraine.

The members of the hostile center operated independently and were connected only to the leader of the espionage group. For the sake of secrecy, the Dnipropetrovsk resident used fake "cover documents," such as a phony "volunteer ID" and "anti-corruption activist credentials."

He recruited accomplices from Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions to collaborate with the aggressor.

In these areas, the suspects gathered intelligence on the firing positions of Ukrainian air defense, attempted to locate secret military airfields where, according to Russian narratives, F-16 aircraft might be stationed.

A specific task for the enemy agents was to identify the addresses of companies involved in the production of electronic warfare tools against Russian drones.

As a result of the special operation, 12 Russian agents and their informants were exposed. Some of them were deserters who had left the Armed Forces of Ukraine and were recruited by Russian intelligence while evading justice.

To gather intelligence, the suspects covertly utilized acquaintances, including Ukrainian military personnel located in frontline regions of Ukraine.

Initially, the members of the espionage group reported to their resident, who then relayed the information to his Russian handler.

During searches, mobile phones, flash drives, military documents, and counterfeit IDs were seized from them.

SBU investigators have informed the detainees of their suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: treason committed under martial law and unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the movement, activity, or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Currently, law enforcement is trying to identify other members of the Russian espionage network. The perpetrators face life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
